The third FANTASTIC FOUR movie was no match for a second week of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION. The Sony property generated just $26 million in its first three days, mostly caused by some pretty horrendous reviews and bad word of mouth of the rebooted franchise. It is not only the worst opening of the three FANTASTIC FOUR movie, it is the worst opening by a marvel based movie, of the current era. It even did worse than movies a decade old, or more, like DAREDEVIL, and BLADE II. FANTASTIC FOUR currently has a 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The #1 movie, MI: ROGUE NATION, collected another $29 million, to bring its 10 day total to just under $109 million. The movie is now in the top 20, for the year, and should make the top 10, by the end of its run.
THE GIFT quietly took the #3 spot for the weekend, grabbing $12 million. Not a bad take for a movie in half as many theaters as the top 2 movies and with a $5 million production budget.
Now in its fifth week, million has hurdled over the $300 million mark, domestically, and is nearing the one billion dollar mark, worldwide. It is the #5 movie of the year, just behind INSIDE OUT and FURIOUS 7.
