US Box Office Results: August 28 - 30, 2015
For the third straight week, the bio pic, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON was the nation's #1 movie. It grossed another $13.2 million, bringing its three week total to $134 million. Not bad for a movie that cost just $28 million to make.
Right behind COMPTON was the Christian movie, WAR ROOM, taking in $11 million in its first three days. Depending on what you call a "Christian" movie, WAR ROOM has the 7th or 4th best opening, for the genre. I dispute the NARNIA trilogy as traditional Christian movies. The other four movies with better opening were PASSION OF THE CHRIST ($84 million), SON OF GOD ($26 million), and HEAVEN IS FOR REAL ($22.5 million).
WAR ROOM was in just over 1,100 theaters, the lease amount for any movie in the top 15. In comparison, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON was in about 3,150 and NO ESCAPE (#4) was in 3,350. WAR ROOM had the best per screen average at $9,700 per, more than doubling the next closest movie, COMPTON, with $4,200.
