US Box Office Results: July 10 - 12, 2015

MINIONS RULE THE WORLS!! Well, at least the  US box office. The cute, funny animated movie, from the DESPICABLE ME franchise, collected $115 million, its first weekend out. It more than doubled INSIDE OUT's opening, last month, and has the second biggest opening ever, by an animated move. #1 still belongs to SHREK THE THIRD.

The new horror film, THE GALLOWS, finished fifth, bringing in just $10 million its first three days. It will be lucky to reach $35 million by the end of its run.

Clunker of the week goes to SELF/LESS, finishing 8th on the weekend, with a little over $5.3 million in receipts. It had the worst per screen average of any movie in the top 10, including the #9 movie BAAHUBALI. That move managed $3.6 million on just 236 screens, or less than a tenth of what the other major releases had.

JURASSIC WORLD hit the $590 million mark, domestically, putting it about $140 million ahead of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON for the top movie of the year. It is now just $33 million away from passing the first AVENGERS movie for the #3 spot, all-time.
