US Box Office Results: June 5 - 7, 2015
Melissa McCarthy is officially a box off draw. Her new movie, SPY, brought in $30 million in it first weekend of release, topping the weekend chart. Excluding the small film ST. VINCENT, this is the fifth strait movie that has grossed over $20 million its opening weekend, for a Melissa McCarthy. The movie also averaged over $8,000 per screen, tops for the weekend.
INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 3, was third, grossing $23 million. It tops the first film of the series by $10 million, but dropped $17 million, form the second film of the franchise. The film should settle into around the $60 million mark, when its theatrical run is done.
ENTOURAGE may have been in more theaters than INSIDIOUS, but collected 57% less in reciptes, than the horror flick, getting just $10.4 million.
Released in less than 500 theaters, the bio-pic, LOVE & MERCY, finished 11th, with over $2.2 million. That averages out to $4,600 per screen, 4th best on the weekend.
