US Box Office Results: May 1 - 3, 2015
The summer movie season has officially begun, with what may be the #1 movie of the year, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. The second Avengers movie (A2) collected just shy of $188 million, in its first three days, posting the second best opening ever. That means that the two Avengers movies are one & two for the best opening weekends.
A2 fell about $20 million short of the first movie's record opening, but was in about 75 less theaters than the first installment. A1's per screen average was over $47,600, while A2's average was just under $43,900.
A2 is on track to bring in over $500 million domestically and could fall substantially short of the $623 million take by A1, back in 2012. But, do not feel sorry for Disney, or the Marvel franchise. A2 has already brought in over $600 million, world wide.
