Final Broadcast Ratings: April 5, 2015
ABC's annual presentation to the classic movie, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, helped the network win the night in the A18-49 ratings, edging NBC by a tenth of a ratings point. The Charlton Heston movie averaged 6.9 million viewers and a 1.4 demo rating, over all four hours of primetime. That is more than 10% in viewers and about 30%, in the demo, above last year's telecast, which aired on a Saturday night, in late April.
NBC claimed the top program of the night, with the premiere of A.D.: THE BIBLE CONTINUES, the sequel to 2013's THE BIBILE miniseries, airing on History. The 9.7 million viewers and 2.3 demo rating is down 3.4 million viewers and 30% in the demo, from the premiere of the original series. A.D. did have to launch on Easter Sunday, while the original miniseries aired five weeks before the holiday, but THE BIBLE did have to fight against THE WALKING DEAD each Sunday night, while A.D. has little competition on this night. We'll see if the DVR numbers for A.D. raise those numbers dramatically.
NBC had a second series premiere in AMERICAN ODYSSEY, but the results are not good, despite winning the hour. ODYSSEY collected 5.4 million viewers and a 1.1 demo, losing 45% of A.D's audience and dropped over 50% of the lead in demo. Last year's premiere of BELIEVE and CRISIS collected 6.75 million viewers and a 1.5 and 1.6 demo rating, respectively.
CBS was way down on the night, despite winning the night in total viewers. 60 MINUTES and BATTLE CREEK failed to generate a 1.0 demo rating and MADAME SECRETARY was the network's best show, in the A18-49 demo, with just a 1.1 rating.
