US Box Office Results: Feb 27 - March 1, 2015
The new Will Smith movie, FOCUS, rose to the top of the weekend box office, collecting over $19 million. The movie is the worst opening for a Will Smith movie since 2008's SEVEN POUNDS. It is only the four movie, Since INDEPENDENCE DAY, to open under $20 million. FOCUS is projected to gross under $60, domestically.
The #2 and #3 movies are the same two from the two previous weeks. KINGSMEN and SPONGEBOB, respectively, stayed strong. Last week's #1, FIFTY SHADES OF GREY plummeted to 4th place, hauling in under $11 million.
The other new release, THE LAZARUS EFFECT, debuted in 5th place, grossing $10.6 million a good showing for a movie with just a $3 million production budget.
