Ratings Review: CONSTANTINE (Season One)

For the second year in a row, NBC tried to find a companion series for GRIMM. And, for the second year in a row, it failed to find one that can draw an audience.

I was surprised to see NBC pickup CONSTANTINE last May, during up fronts. The character had already bombed in theaters, with the Keanu Reeves movie from 2005. Why did they think that a TV series would draw an audience?

From the start, ratings were a challenge as the premiere episode failed to get five million viewers. The 1.4 demo ratings is mediocre, at best. After the first episode, CONSTANTINE would only pull a 1.0, or better, demo rating three more times and never see four million viewers, for an episode.

The L+7 ratings rose to a 1.67 in A18-49 demographic and viewers overall jumped to 5.1 million. The L+SD ratings averaged 3.34 million viewers and a 0.9 demo rating.

In december, NBC did state that even though it did not pick up the back nine order for CONSTANTINE, it did not mean the series is dead. That leaves the door open for a second season fo the seres. Only NBC would do such crazy move, as to keep a low rated program on the air.
