Preliminary Ratings: Thursday 03/05/15
ABC premiered the new crime drama, AMERICAN CRIME, Thursday night, with mixed results. The 10 p.m. series did win its time slot, in both total viewers and in the A18-49 demographic. It only lost 600,000 viewers, from last week's HTGAWM season finale, and held onto 88% of its lead in audience. On the down side, the Demo ratings dropped 33%, from the lead in and it will only go lower, in coming weeks. It is a good start, but we will see if it has legs beyond this initial sampling.
It is week three of the new comedy, THE ODD COUPLE, and it is looking to be the real thing. It drew 12.5 million viewers and a solid 3.0 demo rating. That is a gain of 1.4 million viewers and 7% in the demo, over last week's numbers. But, it does help when you lead in, THE BIG BANG THEORY, has similar gains. Another couple of weeks of performances like this and THE ODD COUPLE should get a second season renewal.
THE SLAP and ALLEGIANCE, on NBC, are killing the night for the network, and taking THE BLACKLIST with it. NBC is a distant 4th place on Thursdays and no indication of things changing. I expect, by Tuesday, for NBC to announce some sort of change with either Thursday or Monday nights, or both.
For FOX, BACKSTROM is just sucking the ratings right out of the night. It is doing about as bad as last year's RAKE. It still has 6 more episodes to air and I would not be surprised if FOX moves the series to Saturday nights, in the very near future.
