After three weeks of domination, AMERICAN SNIPER gives up the #1 spot to THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE OUT OF WATER. The Nickelodeon production grossed $56 million in its first weekend, averaging over $15,000 per screen. Although it has been ten years since the last Spongebob movie, SPNGE OUT OF WATER our grossed the first movie by $24 million. It is also the #5 all-time best opening by a February movie.

AMERICAN SNIPER does fall to second place, grossing another $24 million, pushing up its grand total to $282 million. Expect the Oscar nominated movie to pass $300 million some time in the next couple of days.
