NBC renews five dramas for 2015-16:
NBC has pick up THE BLACKLIST, LAW & ORDER: SVU, CHICAGO PD, CHICAGO FIRE and GRIMM for the 2015-16 season.
Disney hints at OTT services:
The house of the mouse may be looking at expanding its venture in OTT services, beyond Sling TV. In an analyst call it was mentioned that the company may expand into more OTT services, including a possible Marvel and/or STAR WARS dedicated services. Nothing beyond that was stated and it may still be a long shot before the services ever make it the consumer. [LINK]
Apple prepping for OTT service:
This has been rumored and talked about for at least five years, and its is happing again. But with the launch of OTT provider Sling TV, There may be some credibility to the rumor this time. The obstacle, in the past, as been how to divide the money between apple and content owners/networks.
Moonves looking to own CBS:
The 65 year old CEO of CBS, Les Moonves, is looking in to ways to purchase CBS, before current majority stock holder, Sumner Redstone passes away. If Redstone were to pass away as controlling owner of CBS, it could trigger a merger back with Viacom. That could leave Monves and CBS stock holders in inferior position and be short changed. Sumner Redstone is 91 years old and is in failing health.
Netflix orders hip-hop musical series:
THE GET DOWN received a 13 episode order from Netflix, to be released in 2016. The series comes from Baz Luhrmann, director of MOULIN ROUGE and ROMEO + JULIET. The series will be set in the 1970's and explore the rise of Hip Hop, in NYC.
2015 Emmys set date:
FOX will broadcast the 2015 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 20th.
Coach leaving NEW GIRL:
At the end of the current TV season, Damon Wayans, Jr. will once again leave the comedy NEW GIRL. No reason given for the departure, but producers will lead the door open for the actor to return in the future.
Bravo renews freshman series:
THE GIRLFRIENDS GUIDE TO DIVORCE was picked up for a second season, by Bravo.
BET renews MARY JANE:
The second season just premiered, but BET is already to pick up the series, BEING MARY JANE, for a third season.
Shout! Factory going OTT:
Loaded with reruns of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER, THE WEIRD AL SHOW and IT'S GARY SHANDLING SHOW, the distributor SHOUT! FACTORY is expanding to a free, ad supported, streaming service. The service will initially be available on Roku devices and at ShoutFactoryTV.com
