Final Broadcast Ratings: February 25, 2015
CBS used the last night of the February sweeps to kick of the spring editions of their two competition series, SURVIVOR and THE AMAZING RACE. SURVIVOR was second in the 8 p.m. hour, and brought in over 10 million viewers and a 2.4 rating in the A18-49 demo, over the 90 minute episode. That is up a few hundred thousand in total viewers, but down 11% in the demo, from the fall premiere.
THE AMAZING RACE followed with its own 90 minute premiere, but lost nearly 40% of the viewership and 35% of the demo, from its lead in. Compared to its fall premiere, TAR is up 36% in the demo and 600k in total viewers.
The big winner of the night was, once again, EMPIRE. It set yet another series record, grabbing 13.9 million viewers and a 5.4 demo rating. That is up 7% in total viewership and two tenths of a point in the A18-49 demographic. How high can this series go? Can it sustain the popularity over the long term, or will it crash and burn, like GLEE?
The gimmick production stunt by MODERN FAMILY didn't draw extra viewers in, liked they had hoped. The iPhone/iPad only production did rise week to week, but is still below the season average for the series. Instead of trying stunts to grab viewers, try writing better stories, on a consistent basis.
It was a see-saw night for NBC as MYSTERIES OF LAURA pulled in its best demo number since November 19th and rose 27%, week-to-week. But, CHICAGO PD dropped 12%, in the demo, over last week. All three crime dramas stayed even through most of the night.
