Complete Nielsen Ratings: Jan 26 - Feb 1, 2015
The full Nielsen rankings and ratings from #1 to #98:
It is a forgone conclusion that NBC swept the weekly ratings, thanks to that small programming stunt called The Super Bowl. The 49th playing of the biggest sports event of the year drew a record breaking audience of 114.4 million viewers, topping the 2014 game by two million. But, the A18-49 demographic ratings were down a couple notches, but still the most impressive demo rating we will see this year. In a year of major blowout games, NBC was blessed to not only have a competitive game, but one that was not decided until the last 20 seconds of the game.
After the game, the first new THE BLACKLIST in over 10 weeks aired to mixed results. Yes, it should be the best ratings numbers by a regular series, this year, but the 25.7 million viewers and 8.4 demo rating, was below what NEW GIRL pulled in, for the first half hour after last year's game. The demo rating was also below the average FOX got with both NEW GIRL and BROOKLYN NINE-NINE. In the age of the DVR, there really is not the need to stay up after the game and watch a series episode.
FOX, CBS and ABC battled for the scraps. All three networks were close together in the two younger demographic ratings, while CBS pulled away in total viewers and households. CBS had the most top 30 programs, with 17. ABC was second with six. NBC was third with just four and FOX had three.
Now with the big game done, here are the current season-to-date numbers.
Viewership:
CBS - 11.6 million
NBC - 9.8 million
ABC - 7.7 million
FOX - 6.1 million
CW - 2.1 million
A18-49 Demo:
NBC - 2.9 rating
CBS - 2.4 rating
FOX - 2.1 rating
ABC - 2.1 rating
CW - 0.8 rating
If the CBS midseason shows can strike a cord with viewers, it is very possible to see CBS win the A18-49 crown, despite not having the Super Bowl. But, NBC will have THE VOICE back in a few weeks and if any of their new shows can do well, NBC should be able to hold off CBS.
With momentum on its side, I see FOX taking third place in the demo, edging out ABC. EMPIRE and IDOL re a strong combo that negates the GREY'S/SCANDAL combo of ABC.
