CBS had an easy time sweeping the weekly ratings, thanks to a good, but not great, showing by the 2015 Grammy Awards. The annual spectacle of music self appreciation collected 24.8 million viewers and an 8.3 rating in Adults 18-49. That was down over three million viewers and 1.6 points in the demo, from the 2014 telecast. Oh, and before I forget, congratulations to Jack Black and mock group Tenacious D for winning the best Metal Performance Grammy. Really??!!??
CBS dominated the whole week, not just the one night. The network took the top five spots, took 7 of the top 10, and had a total of 19 shows in the top 30. only four programs did not finish in the top 30 and three of those air on Saturday nights.
ABC was the clear victor for second place, edging out FOX in each of the categories. The network's best program was MODERN FAMIL (#12) with 9.9 million viewers. A total of seven ABC programs made the top 30, including the new comedy FRESH OFF THE BOAT, at #28.
FOX only placed three shows in the top 30, but two within the top 10. EMPIRE (#6) was the most watched new drama of the week and AMERICAN IDOL (#8 and #16) was the top reality series. After those three programs, the next best performance by a FOX show was GOTHAM, at #45.
NBC looks really bad when it does not have the NFL and THE VOICE to prop it up. The network could only push THE BLACKLIST into the top 30 and just two other programs into the top 40. NBC was 4th in each of the key demographic categories. In just one week, NBC lost two tenths of a ratings point, in the season-to-date A18-49 ratings, to second place CBS. NBC still has two more full weeks of ratings before THE VOICE returns. We'll see if they can hold on tot the top spot by the time the May sweeps ends.
