Final Broadcast Ratings: January 5, 2014
Four of the five broadcast networks gave us all original lineups, with the CW having the lone encore schedule. ABC and CBS were the top networks in the A18-49 ratings, each averaging a 2.2 rating, but CBS was dominate in total viewers, grabbing three million more than ABC.
The season premiere of THE BACHELOR, brought in 7.8 million viewers and a 2.2 demo rating, over all three hours of primetime. Compared to last year, the dating series is down a million viewers and 19% in the demo. In 2014, the premiere was just a two hour program, not the three hours for this year.
CBS won each half hour in total viewers and took two of the three hours in the A18-49 ratings. Only the two comedies failed to top their time slots, in the demo. From their last outing of an all original night, CBS is up nearly two million viewers and 16% in the demo.
GOTHAM scored the night's best A18-49 number, generating a 2.5 ratings, at 8 p.m. That is up one million viewers and 9% from the fall finale, airing on November 24th. Following at 9 p.m., SLEPPY HOLLOW dropped 38% of its lead in audience. Compared to the December 1st episode, the series is up, marginally, in the A18-49 numbers, and flat in total viewers.
NBC was the #4 network of the night, with night two of THE CELEBRITY APPRENTICE. The ratings dropped just 300k in total viewers and three tenths in the demo, from the previous night's season premiere. Not a bad retention level.
I think we can call STAE OF AFFAIRS a flop. It was a distant third place in both viewers and the demo, barely generating half the numbers CBS and ABC produced. I doubt NBC will pull the drama early, but It could see a Saturday night run, in its near future.
