US Box Office Results: December 26 - 28, 2014
THE HOBBIT: BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES is now brought in over $168.5 million, domestically, and $573.6 million, worldwide.
Taking advantage of the Holiday audiences (kids out of school) were the third NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM movie and the ANNIE remake. Both movies hauled in more money this weekend, than last weekend. MUSEUM was up a whopping 21%, while ANNIE rose 5%.
Also new this weekend, but underperforming, was THE GAMBLER. The Mark Wahlberg made just $9.3 million over the three day weekend and a total of $14.3 since Christmas day. But, it was the highest ranking rated R movie of the weekend.
In limited release, THE IMITATION GAME, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, collected over $7.9 million, in under 750 screens. It was the #3 movie, in per screen averages ($10,600), behind INTO THE WOODS ($12,700) and THE HOBBIT ($10,700).
