US Box Office Results: November 21 - 23, 2014
It was a given that the third film in THE HUNGER GAMES franchise would be the #1 movie of the weekend. The only real question was 'how much would it bring in?' I think $123 million is a pretty good answer.
THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PT. 1 commanded the best opening weekend of 2014, topping the $100 million the fourth TRANSFORMERS movie hauled in this summer. However, it is $35 million less than the previous movie, CATCHING FIRE, brought in its first weekend. But do not worry. MOCKINGJAY PT. 1 should still get over $300 million for its total domestic take.
Last week's #1 movie, DUMB & DUMBER TO dropped to fourth place this week, with just $13.8 million. That is a lost of nearly 62% from last week's $38 million. The current total take by the sequel is over $58 million.
