US Box Office Results: October 3 - 5, 2014
Ben Affleck's GONE GIRL was the number one movie of the weekend, drawing $38 million in its first weekend of release. As an actor, this is Ben's best opening weekend since 2003's DAREDEVIL, which collected over $40 million, and ranks third highest of his career.
Just $800k behind GONE GIRL was the horror film ANNABELL, a prequel to THE CONJURING. The movie is on par with recent other horror film openings and was just a few million behind THE CONJURING's opening weekend ($41.9M).
The third new movie in the top 10 was the remake LEFT BEHIND (#6), staring Nicholas Cage. The film was in less than 2000 theaters and did not have a major marketing push behind it. The original Christian based film, released in 2001 and stared Kirk Cameron, only collected 2.2 million in its opening weekend and grossed a total of $4.2 million.
