Final Broadcast Ratings: October 7, 2014
To say that THE FLASH series premiere was big for The CW, is a complete understatement. Not only did the network move past FOX for the #4 spot, it beat ABC for the #3 spot.
The much anticipated series premiere of THE FLASH commanded 4.8 million viewers and a strong 1.9 rating in Adults 18-49. It is the CW's most watched series premiere in five years, since THE VAMPIRE DIARIES series opener in 2009. The show beHeading to the car nowat everything on ABC, including the similar genre series AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., in the A18-49 demo. If THE FLASH can keep this momentum, week-to-week, the CW could be a serious competitor for the Big 4 networks.
Following THE FLASH, was the 10th season premiere of SUPERNATURAL. In comparison, the numbers look anti-climatic, but 2.5 million viewers is a strong number for the CW. Unfortunately, it was next to 4.8 million viewers. This combination should be strong enough to consistently beat FOX each week and give ABC a run for third place.
Speaking of ABC, the night is beginning to fall apart, and it all starts with the comedies. Both SELFIE and MANHATTAN LOVE STORY stunk up the night as each series lost about 1.4 million viewers, from last week's premiere, and at least a third of its A18-49 ratings.
Two things about ABC's Tuesday night lineup. The first, why did they place the male-centric AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. in the middle of shows that appear to skews more towards female viewers? And two, how long will the two sitcoms last, with both of them dragging down the rest of the night?
NBC may have edged CBS for the nightly demo win, but the network took a big hit in the ratings. NCIS out performed NCIS, in the A18-49 ratings and CHICAGO FIRE has lost a half a point, in the demo, since the season premiere. It may nit be long before PERSON OF INTEREST is back on top of its time slot.
