US Box Office Results: Sept. 26 - 28, 2014
Denzel Washing is back on top of the box office as the re imaged property THE EQUALIZER commands $35 million in its first weekend of release. This is Washington's best opening since 2012's SAFE HOUSE and is the actors 3rd best opening of all time.
Last week's #1 movie, THE MAZE RUNNER, drops 46% to place second on the weekend. The young adult drama already has a domestic take of $58 million, $24 million more than its production budget.
The other new major release was the kids movie THE BOXTROLLS, as it took the #3 spot and brought in $17.3 million. The movie will struggle to gross $50 million during its run.
