Ratings Review: AMERICA'S GOT TALENT (Summer 2014)

AMERICA'S GOT TALENT is still the top program of each summer, but that distinction may be coming to a close, very soon. Ratings continue to shift downard and there is no course correction in sight.

Like it has the last few seasons, the numbers start off strong for AMERICA'S GOT TALENT, but as the season progresses, the viewership and A18-49 ratings dwindle.  Just as the competition is getting good and the series is nearing the finale, AGT is posting it's worst ratings of the season. Head-to-head, it was losing to BIG BROTHER, in the demo numbers. And even with a bump for the championship episodes, the ratings never get back to where they were, at the beginning of the season.

For the summer, AMERICA'S GOT TALENT averaged 10.10 million viewers and a 2.2 rating in Adults 18-49. It is a no-brainer for the series to be back for 2015, and beyond, but NBC needs to figure out why viewership sheds each season, as the summer progresses.
