It was the battle of the primetime football games that determined the network that won the second to last week of the 2013-14 season. CBS swept the ratings, lead by the first game of THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL and nearly one hour of NFL overrun, on Sunday evening. NBC was a close second, with ABC placing a distant third, and FOX at fourth.
THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL collected 20.8 million viewers, about 1.4 million behind SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. What helped push CBS over NBC was the hour of NFL on Sunday and a stronger non-football line up, during the rest of the week. CBS had 17 programs place in the top 30. It had the most watched non-NFL program, in 60 minutes and seven of the top 10 shows in the A18-49 ratings.
NBC did not have a bad week, outside of its football programming. It had a total of 10 shows in the top 30, seven which were not football related. NBC may still come out on top in the year long race of network ratings, but with CBS having eight NFL games on Thursday night, It will be a much closer battle between the two networks.
ABC and FOX were mostly held in check for the week. between the two network, they combined for just three programs in the top 30, with the MISS AMERICA pageant placing 10th. all but four FOX programs ranked 60th, or worse for the week, while all but one ABC program ranked higher than 60th. It could be a long 2014-15 season for both networks, while CBS battle for the top spots.
