Final Broadcast Ratings: August 7, 2014
The Thursday night broadcast ratings are in major flux as local NFL pre-season football coverage preempted programming for each of the BIG 4 networks. CBS had four of the top 10 markets covering football, instead of regular programming.
FOX was the network most affected by the football preemptions. From preliminary ratings to finals, FOX lost 1.1 million viewers and three tenths of a ratings point in the A18-49 ratings. But, compared to last week, FOX only down 200k in viewers and flat in the demo numbers.
CBS and NBC both dropped 800k in viewers and two tenths of a ratings point, in the demo. Obviously, that hurt NBC a little more than CBS, since it started out so low to start with. The surprise between the two networks was how ELEMENTARY ended up doing so well, despite the preemptions. The repeat episode rose 71% in the A18-49 ratings and over 1.8 million more viewers. I would assume that most of the NFL games finished up around 10 p.m., then went right into regularly scheduled programming, which was ELEMENTARY.
ABC lost just a half a million viewers and dropped just one tenth of a ratings point, from the preliminary numbers, this morning. All three series dropped from last week's ratings, with ROOKIE BLUE losing 20% in the demo.
