US Box Office Results: July 11 - 13, 2014
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES dominated the weekend's movie going, collecting $73 million, nearly five times as much as the #2 movie of the weekend. Thus is the 5th best opening weekend of the sumner season, sandwiched between MALIFICENT ($66m) and the X-MEN movie ($90m).
DAWN, the second movie in the rebooted franchise, took in over $18 million more than the first movie, 2011's RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, in it's opening weekend. DAWN has a good chance of reaching $200 million by the end if it's run.
TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION passed over the $200 million level, approacing it's $210 production budget.
After five weeks of release, JUMP STREET and DRAGON are still going strong, topping $170 and $150 million, respectively.
