Final Broadcast Ratings: June 27, 2014
It was a pretty dismal Friday night in the broadcast ratings. Just three programs drew over five million viewers and only ABC was able to bring in young adults, posting the night's only 1.0+ demo ratings.
The worst showing of the night, from a Big 4 network, was the series finale (burn-off) of the FOX series RAKE. Drawing in just 1.3 million viewers for the final episode, RAKE may be the biggest flop of the season. Yes, Worse than LUCKY 7 or even WE ARE MEN. We see why FOX move the series premiere away from the post-NFC Championship game slot, to a regular launch, in it;'s regular time slot.
Not far off from the disappointment level, CROSSBONES was also a "ratings challenged" program. it's 2.2 million viewers and 0.4 demo ratings are series lows. I almost wonder why NBC continued to develop the series, for two years, to just have it take a huge dump? Would a better time slot, say after AMERICA'S GOT TALENT, allowed it to be a relative success, much like THE NIGHT SHIFT has?
ABC does Friday nights right. News programs may not be glamorous, but in this day and age of TV viewing, it is the right strategy and it is paying off.
