US Box Office Results: May 30 - June 1, 2014


The live action movie of MALEFICENT was the weekend's to movie, drawing an estimated $70 million for it's first three days. Compared to the two previous weekends, which featured the opening weekends of GODZILLA and the latest X-MEN movie, MALEFICENT was off pace by 23% and 47%, respectively. But, this is Angelina Jolie's biggest box office opening, topping WANTED ($50.9 million) and MR. & MRS. SMITH ($50.1 million).

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST dropped 64% from last week's $111 million opening. But, the seventh movie of the X-MEN franchise has a $162 million total for it's first 10 days. The movie is on pace to pas both GODZILLA and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, and fall behind CAPTAIN AMERICA 2.

The new comedy A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST rustled up over $17 million dollars it opening weekend. That is not far off from the previous weekend's lone comedy, BLENDED, brought in it's opening weekend.
