Ratings Review: THE SIMPSONS (Season 25)
After 25 years and 552 episodes, THE SIMPSONS are still a part of the TV landscape. Although it does not draw a huge amount of viewers, young adults still love the family that never ages.
It was a good fall season for the long running 'toon. Taking advantage of the football lead in, THE SIMPSONS posted strong numbers for most of the weeks. Five time it posted an A18-49 rating of a 3.0, or better. Six times, viewership was above six million people. A strong start to the 2013-14 season.
But, with football done, the spring numbers fell flat. Only three times did the show post a demo rating of a 2.0, or better. Pulling in more than four million viewers only happened four times. For many seasons, I have stated FOX needs to move and split up the animated comedies. They are old hat on Sunday nights. A New night could pump in new blood and more viewers.
For the season, THE SIMPSONS averaged 4.53 million viewers and an A18-49 rating of 2.0, for the 30 airings of the series, including eight repeat episodes. THE SIMPSONS could go another 25 years. There are no signs of stopping it, especially with the new $750 million syndicated cable deal the studio made with FX and FXX, earlier this year.
