Ratings Review: THE MINDY PROJECT (Season Two)

It is safe to say I am an anti-THE MINDY PROJECT person. Not because of the comedy or content of the series, but because poor ratings it receives. Over the last two years, MINDY has been one of the lower rated programs on FOX, yet it will get a third season in the fall of 2014. I just don't get the reasoning.

THE MINDY PROJECT picked up right where it left off last season... losing a huge chunk of the audience NEW GIRL delivers. with the audience levels already low, MINDY losses about one million viewers from that lead in. A 10 week hiatus of the series, during the first part of 2014, was not only earned, but should have been made permanent.

The LIVE+7 numbers are average, at best, for a low rated series.  In the demo ratings, a 50% rise is about the average growth the series would see. Not the 80% plus, it's NEW GIRL LEAD IN would get.

For the season, THE MINDY PROJECT averaged 2.38 million viewers and a 1.2 rating in Adults 18-49, for the 25 airings, including three repeats. It did end the season with a slight build over NEW GIRL. And, with the network going forward with a 3rd season, I would not be surprised if a fifth season is eventually reached, for syndication purposes.
