Ratings Review: GLEE (Season Five)

In 2013, FOX gave GLEE a two year renewal, despite the signs that the ratings were starting to slide at a pretty accelerated rate. As quick as it became a hit series, it was now well within the lower half of the ratings chart, and falling.

GLEE started out on Thursday night, behind the now cancelled X FACTOR. It did not take long for the series to fall below the three million viewer mark. After a two month winter break, glee returned to the schedule on Tuesday nights, but a change of time slot did not change the ratings. They started out bad and slid down hill, from there.

Even the LIVE+7 ratings were not much to squawk about. They were, at best, levels that CW series would have, and at 25+ years, FOX does not need to be compared to the young CW Network.

For the season, GLEE averaged 3.09 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in Adults 18-49, for the 23 airings, including three encore episodes. The future is a little uncertain for GLEE. We now that FOX will air a full season of the series, but when that season begins is up in the air. We could see the series as a summer 2015 burn-off as it ends it's life on TV.
