Ratings Review: ABOUT A BOY (Season One)
It is a rare thing for an NBC comedy to do even decent numbers in the ratings, but ABOUT A BOY is that rare NBC sitcom. Yes, it is situated right after THE VOICE, but it stayed at a consistent level, unlike last year's GO ON and THE NEW NORMAL.
The premiere did open to less than spectacular numbers, when you consider the Winter Olympics was the lead in for the first episode. But, it was very encouraging to see the time slot premiere, an encore of the first episode, out rated the initial airing, in the A18-49 ratings. It was even more encouraging to see the third airing be the highest rated. But as the season went on, and the lead in numbers dropped, so did the ratings for ABOUT A BOY.
LIVE+3 or LIVE+7 ratings was almost never reported, but the lone data point that was released indicates that it has a minimal following outside of the initial airing, which could indicate that those watching THE VOICE are not changing the channel and just whatching "whatever" is on next. If they see it, they see it. If not, no big deal.
For the 13 episode, 14 airings season, ABOUT A BOY averaged 7.11 million viewers and a 1.9 rating in Adults 18-49. ABOUT A BOY will get a second season is is situated for moderate success, moving back a half hour, with a new series in between it and THE VOICE.
