TV News Roundup: May 16, 2014
CBS is looking at a 24 news service. FX/FXX set summer dates. And, AMC pickes up three new series. This and more in today's TV News Roundup!
CBS Planning Cable News Channel:
It is still in the early stages of development, but CBS is looking to begin it's own 24 hour news channel, leveraging it's entire news division to the endeavor. It will be a crowded field as CNN has two channels (CNN and HLN), NBC has two (MSNBC and CNBC) and there is also FOX News.
FX and FXX Set Summer Premieres:
The summer series that span the two sister networks have their premiere dates set. On FXX, WILFRED will kick off its final season on June 25th.
Over on FX, returning series THE BRIDGE will kick off at 10 p.m., on July 9th. New drama TYRANT, starts on June 24th. THE STRAND, from Guillermo del Torro, begins on July 13th. Then the two new FX comedies, MARRIED and YOU'RE THE WORST, will kick-off on July 17th, at 10 and 10:30 p.m., respectively
AMC Picks up three series:
AMC is picking up three unscripted series, including an expanded version of ALL-STAR CELEBRITY BOWLING, from Chris Hardwick's Nerdist Network. The other two series are an untitled behind the scenes wrestling series, hosted by Billy Corgan. And, VISONARIES, a Hollywood based series that follows the set and props construction, in the industry.
42 Million Connect Homes:
According to a Connected Home survey, there are 42 million US homes that have either Smart TVs or a streaming device connected to their TV. That is up by 6 million, from a year earlier.
