Ratings Review: TROPHY WIFE (Season One)

TROPHY WIFE is a good example of viewers wanting to like a series because of the situation, the casting and/or the people behind the scenes. but, it came up very short of viewers expectations and dropped like a rock in the ratings.

The series premiere had a promising start, 6.7 million viewers and a mid-two in the A18-49 ratings. But, after that initial sampling, viewers bolted. 2.4 million of them (-36%) were gone by the second episodes. By Christmas, viewership was in the mid-three million range. By the end, it was below three million.

DVR viewing didn't do much either. The few times the numbers were reported, they were still sub-par numbers. Remember, starting with a small number and getting a 50% gain is still a small number.

For the season, TROPHY WIFE averaged 3.35 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in Adults 18-49, for the 27 airings, including five repeat episodes. TROPHY WIFE is no more as ABC cancelled the series. It had a very promising future that just was not well executed.
