Broadcast Final Ratings: May 14, 2014
ABC had two season finales last night, with neither pulling good numbers. At 8:30, the series finale of SUBURGATORY drew just 5.2 million viewers and a 1.6 rating in Adults 18-49. It dropped nearly a third of the audience that watched THE MIDDLE, just before it. Last year, the sitcom drew just 5.3 million viewers and a 1.7 demo rating. It is obvious as to why ABC cancelled the series, but with three seasons under it's belt, I am a little surprised they let it go this early.
Closing out the night for ABC was NASHVILLE. It took drew lackluster numbers, but it did grow viewership from it's lead in. Things were a lot better for NASHVILLE, last season, as the 2013 season finale drew one million more viewers and was 32% higher in the demo numbers. The series will have a 3rd season, but if this trend continues, a fourth will be very unlikely.
CRIMINAL MINDS went out with a bang. The veteran crime drama posted it's best numbers since February, getting 12 million viewers and a 2.7 demo rating. it was the night's most watched program and was the second highest rated show in the A18-49 demographic.
Also finishing strong was the CW's ARROW. The second year action series drew 2.4 million viewers and a 0.9 demo rating, comparable to what the series has been getting the last few weeks. The ratings are near even, from last season's finale.
