TOP 10: 2014 Q1 Theatrical Movies
Why wait until until the end of the year to see which movies have had the biggest gross sales. Today's TOP 10 looks at the top 2014 releases with the biggest domestic movie grosses for the first quarter (January - March).
10) ROBOCOP (2014):
The remake of the 1987 movie has not matched the originals box office success. But, of the three '80's remakes released this quarter, it has done the best. Released in Mid-February, ROBOCOP managed to gross just $57.3 million.
9) SON OF GOD:
This repackaging of the story of Jesus, from 2013's miniseries THE BIBLE, has done surprisingly well. In fact, Christian movies have seen success, so far, this year. SON OF GOD is still in theaters and collected over one million dollars this past weekend, has a grand total of $57.9 million after just five weeks of release.
8) THE NUT JOB:
This universally paned computer animated kids movie, has found it's way to a domestic take of $63.1 million. Released in Mid-January, this Open Roads Film has made it's production budget back ($42 million).
7) THE MONUMENTS MEN:
This George Clooney lead project has been out in theaters for two months and has brought in $76.6 million, domestically. It's production budget was set at $70 million. It is very near the end of it's theatrical run, so the total gross will not get too much higher.
6) NON-STOP:
Released at the end of February, this Liam Neeson action thriller is doing well and still pulling in millions each weekend. After five weeks, the movie has collected over $85.4 million viewers, well over it's $50 million budget. It will be close, but NON-STOP should reach the $100 million mark before it leaves theaters.
5) MR. PEABODY & SHERMAN:
Our second animated kids movie and a revival of the classic '60's cartoon series, of the same name. After four weeks of release, MR. PEA BODY & SHERMAN has grossed over $95.1 million and looking at much more as it was the #4 movie this past weekend.
4) DIVERGENT:
The latest popular book series to make it to the silver screen, DIVERGENT has a strong following from the popular novels. In less than 14 days, this hit movie has a domestic gross of nearly $100 million and will be a candidate for the year end top ten list.
3) 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE:
The long waited sequel to the 2007 movie, 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE has done relatively well in the box office. after four weeks of release, the period action movie has brought in over $101.4 million and is close to matching it's production budget of $110 million.
2) RIDE ALONG:
the 23rd movie Kevin Hart has appeared in in the last 6 months..... OK, it's only five, but it is by far his highest grossing film, as a lead actor. The comedy has grabbed over $133.7 million since it's mid-January release. It's theatrical run is near the end, so the total grose should not get to much higher.

Already a sure thing for the end of the year top 10, this unlikely kids movie has brought in nearly a quarter of a billion dollars, so far. After two months of release, THE LEGO MOVIE shows no signs of stopping. This past weekend it was the #11 movie, with a take over over $3 million.
