Primetime Cable Ratings: April 13, 2014

There has always been this perception that MAD MEN is a hit cable TV series, however, the the opposite is more in line with the truth. The season premiere of the final season of the AMC drama drew just 2.3 million viewers and a 0.8 rating in Adults 18-49. Now, those are not horrible numbers, but they re lo NOT the numbers of a "Hit" TV series. This was the worst rated season premiere of the series, since season two. The best is only 3.5 million viewers, in 2012.
For the life of the series, or any individual season, MAD MEN averaged UNDER 3 million viewers. It is very comparible to another AMC series, HELL ON WHEELS, which was banished to Saturday nights, last season, an pulled in relatively good ratings, not far off from this MAD MEN premiere.

GAME OF THRONES, an actual hit cable series, was the dominate program of the night. It produced ratings very close to last week's season premiere, which ranks it 2nd all-time for the series.

THE MTV MOVIE AWARDS placed 4th on the nigh.
