Ratings: Broadcast Finals for March 19, 2014
The CW premiered the new science fiction based drama, THE 100, on Wednesday night and the initial results look relatively spectacular. THE 100 drew 2.7 million viewers and posted a 0.9 rating in Adults 18-49. It INCREASED from it's lead in, ARROW, which is usually the most watched show in the CW, by 13% in both viewers and demographic ratings. Obviously, this is by far a better performance than the previous time slot occupant, THE TOMORROW PEOPLE, has done all season. If the audience returns, this is a shoe-in for a quick renewal, by the CW.
SURVIVOR may be coming up on it's 14th anniversary, but it is still a strong performer in the ratings. In this 28th season, SURVIVOR was the #1 show of the night, grabbing a 2.5 rating in Adults 18-49, plus a strong 9.5 million viewers. CBS was wise to give an early renewal for two more cycles.
NBC was sub-par on the night. Each of the three dramas were down from last week, with CHICAGO PD dropping the most, 12% in the demo rating. With both LAW & ORDER: SVU and CHICAGO PD joining CHICAGO FIRE with renewals yesterday, this performance is not exactly a positive reinforcement of the decision. But, it is the spring time.
Speaking of dropping in the ratings, AMERICAN IDOL continues to slide. Week-to-week, it is down another 5% in viewers and 8% in the A18-49 ratings. At this rate, we could see IDOL pull a sub-two in the demo ratings, very soon.
