It was all NBC this week as the Winter Olympic Games opened in Sochi, Russia. Four nights of the 18 day event were broadcast by the network, lofting them way above the other networks and taking the top four spots.
The opening ceremony drew the best numbers in 20 years, for a non North American Olympics, with 31.7 million viewers and an 8.6 rating in Adults 18-49. For the first four nights, Thursday through Sunday, NBC is averaging 25.8 million viewers per night, covering the games. The network has already tied FOX in the season-to-date A18-49 ratings, each with a 2.9. With 14 more nights still to be covered, NBC should have a huge lead in the category, on their way to their first season demographic win in quite a while.
CBS was pretty much the "best of the rest." They collected 19 shows in the top 30, including the Sunday night THE BEATLES: THE NIGHT THAT CHANGED AMERICA, which drew just under 14.1 million viewers and a 2.1 demo rating. Every new program that CBS aired, excluding Saturday, made the top 30.
FOX and ABC didn't put up much of a fight. FOX's only two entries in the top 30 was AMERICAN IDOL, at #9 and #13. ABC's four entries was the Monday night line up and the two veteran Wednesday night comedies. CASTLE was the networks most watched, at #16.
The CW dropped-week-to-week, as it begins preperation for the mid-season series premieres, after the Olympics.
