Ratings: Broadcast Finals for January 15, 2014
AMERICAN IDOL dominated Wednesday night on broadcast TV, as the season premiere drew a solid 15.2 million viewers and a 4.7 rating in Adults 18-49. Compared to last year's season premiere, IDOL is down nearly two million viewers and 22% in the demo ratings. But, it is UP two million viewers and 27% in the demographic ratings from it's season average in 2013. If the new chemistry strikes a cord with viewers and IDOL can sustain this level of ratings, it could be the comeback TV series of the year.
CBS was the #2 network on the night, despite below average numbers for CRIMINAL MINDS and repeat during the 8 p.m. hour. MINDS, as most shows from 8 to 10 p.m., were down because of the AI premiere.
ABC's SUBURGATORY had it's season premiere to so-so ratings. It brought in about the same ratings as BACK IN THE GAME had been doing, before the holidays. Unless syndication value is just to great, expect this to be the last season of SUBURGATORY.
Also looking to be axed at the end of the season is THE TOMORROW PEOPLE. It is the one freshmen series from the CW to not click with the viewers. Losing nearly half of the audience from ARROW is just to great to over come. The series will move to a new night, in March, so expect even lower ratings for the series.
