Twitter TV Ratings: December 11, 2013
The Nielsen Twitter TV ratings for Wednesday are a perfect example of how a series can have heavy social media activity, but do poorly in the ratings.
THE X FACTOR was one of the lowest rated show of the night, drawing under 5 million viewers and just a 1.4 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. Yet, it beats one of the strongest shows of the night, DUCK DYNASTY, by over 600,00 unique twitter accounts. It also more than doubled the hit cable series by number of impressions from all the tweets generated.
However, DUCK DYNASTY is not the type of show most viewers will tweet about multiple times a night. It did draw just shy of 9 million viewers and produced an A18-49 rating (3.5) that was 2 1/2 times larger than THE X FACTOR.
Shows like THE X FACTOR do more to engage the viewers in social media than do scripted or reality series. But, more engagement does not mean better ratings. THE X FACTOR is one of the great disappointments of this 2013-14 season and is on the verge of being cancelled after this season.
