TOP 10: My Ten Favorite 2013 Fall Series
This is a great time of the year. Baseball just finished its playoffs. Football is in full swing, The leaves are changing and we are in the meat of the of the 2013 fall TV season. I have sampled a lot of new series and dropped a couple of veteran shows. But I have 10 core TV series this fall that I make sure I am watching.
10) HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER:
Its the last season of the series and we finally know who the mother is and now we get to se how that relationship developed. We also will see how the characters develop between know and 2030, the time when Ted is telling his kids How he met their mother.
9) THE MENTALIST:
Every season has always been about Patrick Jane trying to find the killer of his wife and daughter, RED JOHN, but this season has ramped up the search. We are down to just a handful of suspects and we also get to visit characters from past seasons. Its to bad its the one series that is hurt the worst by NFL overrun games.
8) PERSON OF INTEREST:
A great show to begin with, but they have tweaked the series a bit, for the better. The cast has expanded with Shaw joining Harold and John directly. Detective Carter was demoted back to being a beat cop and she is out to break up HR. The series is not resting on the familiar.
7) THE MILLERS:
Margo Martindale & Beau Bridges. Enough said!
Actually, this is a funny sitcom that, with time, can be a classic comedy. The ingredients are there, they just need to work it out and find their footing.
6) THE CRAZY ONES:
You either Love Robin Williams, or you hate him. As a fan of MORK & MINDY, I am very glad to see the crazy Robin back on TV. The rest of the cast works well together and are funny. This is how a single camera comedy should be... Funny!
5) BROOKLYN NINE-NINE:
At first, this looked to be another off-the-wall- FOX sitcoms that misses on all levels, but the combination of Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher works perfectly. The supporting cast has jelled right off too. It my be the funniest new comedy of the year.
4) NEW GIRL:
The series didn't even blink when it made a couple out of Jess & Nick. What would have been a "Jump the Shark" moment for most other series, just gave the series more creativity in its story telling. The funny has not stopped since the series began.
3) THE BLACKLIST:
The best new series of the TV season. I have never liked James Spader, but he is perfect in this. The pilot may have been on of the best I have seen for a drama/crime series. Even with self contained episodes, there is still enough continuing story and sub plots to keep you coming back each week.
2) THE BIG BANG THEORY:
Easily the funniest comedy on TV since SEINFELD. I have never been disappointed in an episode. I can count on having a few good laughs each time I watch it. This can't be said for some comedies, even a few "hit" comedies.
1) THE WALKING DEAD:
Gore, suspense, drama, action and... Zombies! What could be better?
THE WALKING DEAD is one of those series that is "In The Zone/" it tells a story like no other series can/is today. It may be from the absolute freedom the production has on the set. Broadcast TV needs to really pay attention to this series and learn from it. It not just the Zombies that make it the #1 scripted program in the A18-49 ratings, It the story telling and the characters.
