Ratings Review: ABC Sundays - November Sweeps
ABC Sunday nights just does not look good anymore. The network has become a 4th place network on the night with little hop of change in sight.
The night kicks off with what may be the more stable program of the night for ABC, AMERICA'S FUNNIEST VIDEOS. With little hype or promotion, AFV brings in 6.5 to 7 million viewers each sunday, at 7 p.m. A strong number when you consider most of america is watching the end of NFL games at that time.
ONCE UPONA TIME is not the series it once was. Sad considering it is only in it's third season right now. The numbers continue to slide each week and it was out drawn in total viewers by AFV, in week #2. This is supposed to be the anchor of the night, but it is not working. Thing will only get worse with the new year as high profile specials and NFL games will populate the night, on the other networks, until spring time.
REVENGE is not a strong series for ABC, but it does seem to have some fight in it. Unlike OUAT, at 8 p.m., REVENGE does see ratings gains, from time to time. Even when ONCE UPON A TIME is down, REVENGE goes up. The move to 10 p.m. may be a good move for ABC, if the new 9 p.m. series can hold attract viewers.
Attracting viewers is the problem for BETRAYAL. Below a 3.5 million viewers an episode and under a one in the A18-49 ratings, this series is just filling time until the mid-season schedule can kick in. ABC can't wait for this series to be finished.
Not all was gloom & doom for ABC as the last Sunday night of the sweeps period produced the best numbers on the night, all season. THE AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS drew 13.1 million viewers and a strong 4.5 rating in Adults 18-49, from 8 to 11 p.m. It does show that something can work on the night for ABC, it is jut night the there dramas it currently has on the schedule.
