TOP 10: Next Series To Be Cancelled
As of October 21, 2013, four series have been canceled, so far, for the 2013-14 season. LUCKY 7, and WE ARE MEN were favorites for the earliest exit, and they were. IRONSIDE and WELCOME TO THE FAMILY was on most people's list. But who is next? Will FOX pull the trigger to play catchup with the other three Big Networks? Will ABC or CBS even the numbers up with NBC? Or will continue the blood shed with more chopping block action?
Here are my TOP 10 2013-14 series to be on the chopping block next.
10) PARKS & REC
This could be the last season for the low rated mockumentary comedy. It is off the scedule for the remainder of October and there will be double episodes soon, until COMMUNITY fills the 8:30 slot in 2014. PARKS & REC will not be axed early, but once it's production cycle is complete. It will not be renewed.
9) THE GOLDBERGS
It only took three weeks for NEW GIRL to top the new ABC comedy in the A18-49 ratings. The sitcom has lost half of its audience in the young demo graphic since it's premiere. I do think ABC like the series and the network will dispose of other show before THE GOLDBERGS.
8) SUPER FUN NIGHT
In it's third week, SUPER FUN NIGHT is already seeing erosion of nearly 50% in the A18-49 ratings, from its MODERN FAMILY lead in. ABC will not hesitate to improve the time slot if SNF can't get the job done. But, ABC does have many more problems on its schedule.
7) HOSTAGES
It should be cancelled next, but it looks as if CBS will tough it out and let the limited series run it course. With IRONSIDE gone, HOSTAGES is now the lowest rated 10 program from the Big 3 networks.
6) THE MINDY PROJECT
The only thing saving this series is that I do believe FOX really, really wants it succeed. It is the least viewed series of the four Tuesday comedies and has always lost a decent chuck of the lead in by NEW GIRL
5) THE TROPHY WIFE
Of the four surviving ABC sitcoms, TROPHY WIFE is the lowest rated. It has not, and will not, click with the viewing audience. ABC may just let the comedy run out its initial 13 episode order and start fresh in the new year.
4) DADS
A top candidate for next to be eliminated had FOX not recently ordered more scripts for the series. It is bad in the ratings and is bad as show. I do not see why the series was even bought, let alone picked up for the 2013-14 season.
3) THE NEIGHBORS
The very weak link in a otherwise solid friday night lineup for ABC. It does have a full season order, but if the numbers continue to be bad (sub 1.0 in the demo ratings) ABC will have to try something else in the time slot. Who know how much negative effect THE NEIGHBORS is causing to SHAKE TANKE, as a lead in.
2) ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND
In just its second week, it lost to the CW series, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, and just barely edged out the NBC comedies in the important A18-49 ratings. With THE VOICE scheduled with a special Thursday night edition this week, expect OUATiW to be a 5th place program in the 8 p.m. hour. The axe could swing as early as this Friday, for the spin-off drama.
1) BETRAYAL
The fact that it has not yet been cancelled is a bit of a mystery. But it should produce a fourth week of horrid ratings for ABC and the 2013 November sweeps is just 10 days away, so I expect an announcement by Wednesday, if not earlier.
