Box office receipts for for the time frame of the first weekend in May through Labor Day Weekend was $4.76 billion. That is BILLION, with a B. That is roughly 583 million movie tickets sold for the season.
Of the top ten movie, only three were not either a sequel, a reboot or a remake. WORLD WAR Z, the top of those three films, was based on a preexisting 2006 book by Max Brooks. THE CONJURING became the highest grossing horror movie in a decade.
