Ratings Review: GLEE (Season Four)

There were good things and bad things for GLEE getting the coveted Thursday 9 p.m. time slot on FOX. It would have a good lead in program, helping it in the ratings. The down side is the many two hour editions of THE X-FACTOR and AMERICAN IDOL that would preempt the show. Plus, not to mention, the MLB Playoffs in the fall. But, no mater how you look at it, GLEE did not have a good year.

The series did start of strong, getting an early jump on the season. But as the season progressed, viewers began leaving the series.  From the season premiere to the season finale, GLEE lost 1.5 million viewers (20%) and 35% of its A18-49 viewers. Frankly, I am amazed that the series not only got a pick up for the 2013-14 season, but it is also getting a season after that, for 2014-15.

For the season, GLLE averaged 5.63 million viewers and a 2.1 rating in Adults 18-49, for its 20 airings, including one encore episode. The series should once again have a good season premiere, given the death of one of its stars over the summer, but it will also fall rapidly in the ratings.
