Ratings: Broadcast Finals for September 17, 2013

It was a busy night of original programming as FOX rolled out its Tuesday night comedy line up. Starting off at 8 p.m. was DADS. The Seth Green/Giovanni Ribisi sitcom drew 5.8 million viewers and a 2.2 rating in Adults 18-49. Not great numbers, but it was better than the RASING HOPE opener on October 2, 2013, by 48% in viewers and 29% in the demo ratings. Considering most people think this could be the very first cancellation of the season, DADS may hang around a little longer than expected.

At 8:30, Andy Samberg/Andre Braugher police comedy grew upon it lead in, collecting 6.2 million viewers and a 2.6 demo rating. Compared to last year's BEN & KATE premiere on Sept. 25th, at 8:30 p.m., BROOKLYN NINE-NINE improved the slot by nearly 2 million viewers and 24% in the A18-49 ratings. So far, it looks like viewers were at least willing to sample the new comedies. But, how far will they fall next week, when a majority of the competition is also back in original episodes?

Season three of NEW GIRL opened only slightly up from season two's opener and actually lost viewers from BROOKLYN NINE_NINE. This could be a make or break year for the hip, young comedy, which was the #1 show in A18-49. Many expect the series to get a surge in the ratings after a summer run of both episodes on NETFLIX.

The one low spot on the night for FOX was THE MINDY PROJECT. Losing over 30% of its lead in audience, the sophomore series hauled in just 3.8 million viewers and a 1.9 demo rating. that is off by 18% in viewers and 21% in the demo, from last year's series premiere. This was one renewal, by FOX, that had me shaking my head. It is now obvious that the series will never draw an audience.

AMERICA'S GOT TALENT drew over 11 million viewers and a 2.4 rating in Adults 18-49. It was the most watched program of the night, but finished third to NEW GIRL and BROOKLYN NINE-NINE in the demo ratings. Compared to last year's numbers for the second to last edition, AGT was even in viewers, but lost 17% in the A18-49 ratings.
