TOP 10: Superhero Movies

Superhero movies are fast becoming the number one genre. In the 2013 alone, there was IRON MAN 3, MAN OF STEEL, KICK-ASS, WOLVERINE and THOR will be out later this year. So what are the best of these movies? Here is my take.

10. Mystery Men
Although not a huge box office hit, Muster Men was a great spoof on the genre, with a good story. How can you go wrong with a supervillain named Casanova Frankenstein?

9. Batman (89)
After the huge flops of Superman 3 & 4, in the early 80's, Batman revitalized the superhero movie craze we have now. Michael Keaton was perfect as the caped crusader and the choice of retro/contemporary designs worked.

8. Captain America
Keeping this origin story in the original time period of the 1940's sales the audience of the hero patriotism the superhero embodies. Great action & a great cast make this a viable franchise for years to come.

7. The Dark Knight Rises
I believe every fan of the Dark Knight Trilogy tells this was a great movie except.... And you fill in the blank. The time whole time we have Bruce Wayne in the hole, rehabbing his back, really drug the film down. Plus the ending action scene was anti-climatic.

6. Iron Man
No one saw this becoming as huge as out became. A B'liust superhero played by an actor that, was thought, to be way past his prime. Iron Man may be THE Superhero franchise of Hollywood.

5. Man of Steel
The first good Superman movie in over 30 years. A lot of pressure was on this reboot of the first superhero. What we got was a great cast, a strong reimaging origin story, awesome action and a strong musical score. A near perfect movie that out performs the first movie in 1978.

4. The Avengers
A near perfect action movie. The culmination of six previous movies (Iron Man 1 & 2, Two Hulks, Capt. America and Thor) The Avengers delivered on every level. Story, action, design, cast, humor and much more.

3. The Incredbles
This is one of my all time favorite Pixar movies and is one of the best superhero movies. Brad Baird does a great job of directing this instant animated classic. Every characters was perfectly developed and Craig T. Nelson is awesome as Mr. Incredible.

2. The Dark Knight
I actually go back and forth between this movie and the #1 movie as my all-time favorite. This is a great story and how the character of The Joker was completely reimagined and performed is cinematic perfection.

1. Batman Begins
Batman begins may be one the best origin stories for a superhero movie. It was on of the few superhero movies to focus on the hero, not the supervillain. Christopher Nolan does a great job of delivering us the perfect Batman story.
