TV News Roundup: Week of May 6, 2013
Here is a quick look at the past five days of TV news as we head into the weekend.

- Michael Scott returns to THE OFFICE:
Steve Carell will reportedly return to THE OFFICE for the series finale next week, May 16th - WILFRED returns June 20th:
FX has announced that the third season premiere of the comedy WILFRED will air on June 20th, with back to back episodes, starting at 10 p.m. - After 25 seasons, COPS leave FOX:
FOX has cancelled the long running reality series, but don't worry, cable network SPIKE has picked it up. New episodes of COPS will begin this fall.
- Carrie Underwood takes over for Faith Hill on Sunday Night:
The 2005 American Idol winner will be the new lead singer for the SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL opening them song. - FX aquires theatrical films for 2015 airings:
FX announced that it has secured right for the following theatrical films.
Iron Man 3, Pain and Gain, Oblivion, The Croods, A Good Day to Die Hard, Evil Dead, Identity Thief, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Mama, and Zero Dark 30. - TNT picks up new drama:
TNT announced that it has picked up the new series THE LAST SHIP, from producer Michael Bay. The 10 episode order will begin in 2014. - TBS will begin airing the FINAL FOUR:
Starting in 2014, TBS will begin airing NCAA Men's Basketball's FINAL FOUR. Next year and 2015, It will air only the semi-final games, then in 2016, TBS will add the Championship game. CBS and TBS will alternate the FINAL FOUR from that point forward.
- FOX picks up five new comedies:
FOX announces that it has picked up the following sitcoms for the 2013-14 season.
US & THEM - starring Jason Ritter.
ENLISTED - from the creator of COUGARTOWN and SCRUBS.
DADS - from Seth McFarland, starring Seth Green and Geovanni Ribisi.
BROOKLYN NINE-NINE - starring Andre Braugher and Andy Samberg.
SURVIVING JACK - from the creators of $#!* MY DAD SAYS. - FOX also picks up four new dramas for 2013-14:
RAKE - legal drama starring Greg Kinnear.
SLEEPY HALLOW - from the creators of FRINGS and the STAR TREK and TRANSFORMER franchises.
GANG RELATED - starring LOST's Terry O'Quinn.
ALMOST HUMAN - From JJ Abrams, staring Kieth Urban. - NBC officially cancels DECEPTION:
No surprise from this news release. It was one of the worst rated dramas from the Big 4 networks, this winter. - TNT picks up spy drama:
TNT announces that it has picked up the spy drama LEGENDS, starring Sean Bean (GAME OF THRONES).
- Ovation cable network picks up nine new series:
America's only arts network has picked up nine new show that will premiere over this summer and fall. The network is increasing 2014 original programing by nearly six times what they will offer in 2013. - ELEMENTARY is headed to London:
CBS crime drama ELEMENTARY will film the second season premiere in London. - Neil Patrick Harris will host again:
Neil Patrick Harris will host the 67th Tony Awards, scheduled for June 9th. This will be his 4th duty as the awards host. - THE GOODWIN GAMES:
After a year of its announcement at the 2012 Upfronts, +The Goodwin Games will finale make it's debut, May 20th. - CW renews two dramas, picks up four more:
The small network renewed THE CARRIE DIARIES for 13 episodes and NIKITA for 6 episodes for 2013-14 season. The network also picked up four new shows - THE 100, OXYGEN, REIGN and THE TOMORROW PEOPLE. - CBS renews CRIMINAL MINDS:
The network completes contract negotiations to bring back the series for a 9th season. - FOX Cancels TOUCH:
One of the least viewed original series this year, ends after two seasons. - NBC Renews One comedy, cancels four others:
NBC renews PARKS & REC for the 2013-14 season, axes low rated comedies WHITNEY, GUYS WITH KIDS, UP ALL NIGHT and 1600 PENN.
- CBS Picks up six series, two dramas, four comedies:
CBS picked up two dramas, HOSTAGES and INTELLIGENCE. The four comedies the network ordered are WE ARE MEN, MOM, THE MILLERS and THE CRAZY ONES. - ROCK CENTER WITH BRIAN WILLIAMS is cancelled:
NBC is cutting lose the low rated newsmagazine after two seasons. - TNT drops the ax on two dramas:
The cable network cancelled veteran drama SOUTHLAND and freshman series MONDAY MORNINGS. - GO ON has stopped on NBC:
The once promising Matthew Perry sitcom GO ON was cancelled by the Peacock Network. - One spin-off and one remake series picked up by NBC :
CHICAGO PD, the spin-off from first year drama CHICAGO FIRE , was ordered to series, as well as the remake of the 70's series IRONSIDE, starring Blair Underwood, for 2013-14. - WHITNEY actor's new comedy picked up by NBC:
Chris D'Elia will star in the new NBC comedy UNDATEABLE. - CBS cancels 4 series late Friday:
Not making it another season are GOLDEN BOY, RULES OF ENGAGEMENT, VEGAS and CSI: NY. - Against all odds, COMMUNITY gets a fifth season:
In a move that has to be motivated by syndication value only, NBC renews COMMUNITY for 2013-14. - ABC new series picks up to series for 2012-13:
Comedies TROPHY WIFE, THE GOLDBERGS, BACK IN THE GAME and SUPER FUN NIGHT and the much anticipated MARVEL's AVENGERS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Dramas BETRAYAL, LUCKY 7, MIND GAMES - ABC current series not coming back:
Gones are comedies HAPPY ENDINGS and MALIBU COUNTRY. Dramas BODY OF PROOF and RED WIDOW - ABC series getting another season:
Dramas SCANDAL, CASTLE, GREY'S ANATOMY and NASHVILLE, ONCE UPON A TIME and REVENGE, plus comedy SUBERGATORY, MODERN FAMILY, THE NEIGHBORS, THE MIDDLE get renewed for next season. - THE NEW NORMAL is no more:
NBC cancels the first year comedy.
