Ratings: Broadcast Finals for May 6, 2013
THE VOICE is still the dominate show of the night, but the numbers are falling. Collecting 12.1 million viewers and a 4.1 demo rating, the talent competition is down 5% in viewers and 8% in the demo from last week. But, in just three short weeks, the Monday night show id down 18% in viewership and 25% in the demo ratings. That season high night of April 15th, had all shows, on all networks, in original episodes. Is the decline attributed to the time of year, the format of the show at this point, or has boredom has set in for the viewers?
With FOX Monday nights done for the season, the networked aired the music special RIHANNA 777. The special pulled in just 1.7 million viewers and a 0.7 demo rating. It was the night's least watched original program on the night, from the BIG 4 Networks. Music specials may be a piece of programming that needs to be eliminated in this age of streaming content of anything and everything by a musical artist.
CBS may need to address its monday nights for next season. All the shows they have do well in the ratings, especially so when THE VOICE and DWTS are on breaks. But that timeframe is only about 14 weeks long, during the winter. As we have seen this spring and last fall, all the comedies take a big hit opposite the two popular competition series. But, can anything rebuild the night other than moving the Thursday line up to Mondays? I don't think so. CBS may have to weather the storm and hope for the best next season.
