Ratings Review: DALLAS (Season Two)

Season to of the revived drama DALLAS did not do as well as season one. The season averaged dropped by nearly two million viewers (4.5 to 2.6 million). 2.6 million viewers per week, on cable, is still a good number. But dropping your average by 42% is never a good thing.

Part of the drop could be attributed to a few different things. The first, the loss death of Larry Hagman and his very popular character, JR Ewing. JR is an icon. The face of the series.

The series also had two different schedule changes. The first is the time of the year. Going from a summer run to a winter run. When you are only competing with the summer offerings from the broadcast networks, success is a little easier to achieve. Also, moving from Wednesdays to Mondays had a huge impact. In now has to deal with THE VOICE. something did not have to content with last summer.

TNT has not yet announced a third season, but I have to believe that DALLAS will get renewed. It still grabs a large number of viewers. Only if production costs are too high could the revival come to a premature end.
