Ratings: Broadcast Finals for February 5, 2013

One of NBC's bright spots from the 2011-12 season was the new musical drama SMASH. On Tuesday night, SMASH had its second season premiere, and like everything else on NBC since January, it tanked in the ratings. Just a 1.2 demo rating and 4.5 million viewers tuned in to the two hour event. It was easily the lowest rated program in the A18-49 demo ratings, from the Big 4 networks. When you compare to the season finale back in May 2012, the series dropped 1.5 million viewers and 33% in the demo ratings.

As one series has its season premiere, another has its series finale. EMILY OWENS, M.D. posted its best ratings since the series premiere, back in October 2012. It drew 1.5 million viewers and a 0.4 demo rating. Although it did grow in total viewership from its lead in, its demo ratings drop is why it is ending. A 33% from HART OF DIXIE. This is the first new program, from the CW, to be cancelled.

NEW GIRL continues to prosper with the absence of BEN AND KATE.
CBS' VEGAS loses over 50% of its lead in demo rating, perhaps sealing its fate of cencellation after its run.
THE BACHELOR comes in on a special night and delivers ratings stability on a night of instability.
